Brand Name:MobicoxPrescription needed: YesWhat is this drug used for?Meloxicam is used to relieve the pain, tenderness, inflammation, and stiffness caused by arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis) and other inflammatory conditions. It may also be used to relieve other pain, including pain due to gout, headaches (e.g. migraines), muscle/joint/tendon strains or sprains, menstrual cramps, dental work or surgery/procedures. Is there any reason not to take this drug?You should not take this drug if you have had asthma, itchiness, hives or other allergic reactions to meloxicam, aspirin or other similar drugs (e.g. diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen). Some of these side effects are related to the dose and may go away with time. Other less common and/or sometimes severe side effects include: Health Canada has issued a safety alert on this medication as it belongs in a class known as selective COX-2 inhibitors. Some individuals may be at a higher risk of having a heart attack or stroke while taking this medication. Talk to your doctor about any concerns or questions.

If you are taking medications to treat high blood pressure, this medication may interfere with how well your blood pressure medication can work and your blood pressure may increase. Your doctor will likely check your blood pressure periodically while you are taking this medication

Stopping the drug: If you have been taking this drug regularly, talk to your doctor before you stop. If you take it occasionally for short-term pain relief, you can safely stop when it is no longer required. Your symptoms may return when you stop the medication If you miss a dose: take the next dose when you remember. If it is within eight hours of your next scheduled dose, take it now but skip the next dose. Never double dose. Storage conditions: closed container; cool, dry location away from excess moisture (not in the bathroom); always out of reach of children. Dietary precautions: Since this medication may cause an upset stomach, take naproxen with food or milk. |
